I have had the privilege of knowing, loving, spoiling and taking care of yorkies for over 20 years. If you are looking for a best friend in a dog, you should choose a Yorkshire Terrier. I have been touched very deeply with their loyalty, friendship and the love they can bring to your heart.
Yorkshire Terriers range between 5 to 8 pounds. Their coats are typically black or gray on the body, with more brown and gold on the faces and legs, but this can vary. Depending on the owner he/she chooses to either have the fur cut short or keep it long. Yorkie fur is soft and fine, but high maintenance. It needs to be bathed and brushed weekly. Nails must be cut every 2 weeks so that the veins do not grow longer which means that it will be harder to cut. Depending on the owners' taste, Yorkies fur will need to be cut once a month.
Yorkies typically get along with children, depending how children treat them. Just like with any animal, please use your best judgment. My children love to play and chase them all over my house.
